Public Buildings Projects
Farnham Locality Office, South Street, Farnham, 1997-1998 for Waverley Borough Council. Contract sum: £215,000.00. Farnham Society Amenity Award 1999.
The building built at the turn of the 20th Century was the work of the architect Paxton Wood Watson and is a good example of the Arts & Crafts style of architecture. The building has undergone many alterations and changes of use over the past 95 years. However the essential components of the architectural composition have been retained.
This project involved a modest extension of the rear (east) elevation, together with some internal remodelling and refurbishment, whilst paying due regard to the existing architectural vocabulary of the building.
The addition is 170m2 in area, providing access facilities for the disabled, additional accommodation for Farnham Town Council and the Help Shop, and on site facilities for other local interest groups, thereby offering a better and extended service to the local community. The building was kept operational and open to the general public throughout the construction process.
