Restoration and refurbishment at Farnham Castle, Farnham, Surrey. For the International Briefing and Conference Centre.

Haworth King was commissioned in the summer of 2000 by the Board of the International Briefing and Conference Centre as architects for the first phase of restoration and refurbishment of Farnham Castle.

Farnham Castle, a Grade I Listed Building and arguably the most important building architecturally in Farnham, and one of the most historically significant in Surrey, dates back to the year 1138. During the past period of over 800 years the Castle has undergone numerous alterations, additions and changes.

The building, which is owned by the Church Commissioners and leased to the International Briefing Centre, is now the subject of further restorative works and refurbishment, and the current works include the refurbishment of the Tudor wing (Wykeham bedrooms), upgrading of the lecture rooms, a lighting scheme for the Norman Great Hall, and the re-modelling and upgrading of the male, female and disabled toilet facilities within Fox's Tower.

Following a period of detailed discussion with the Local Authority's Conservation Officer, English Heritage and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, refurbishment work commenced in March 2001. Further phases of restoration work are planned
