Educational Projects
Farnham College, Morley Road, Farnham, Surrey. 1996 Contract Sum (£0.5m - £0.65m).
The project comprised the procurement by the Design and Build method of a new teaching block to provide 13 teaching rooms, staff rooms, stores and sanitary accommodation.
The construction is mainly load bearing masonry walls with precast concrete floors. The roof is Redland Double Roman concrete tiles on timber trussed rafters. The staircase projections are steel framed with walls in brickwork and curtain wall glazing. Windows, doors, fascias etc were chosen to be as maintenance free as possible, and external materials were generally chosen to blend with existing buildings.
The design development, working drawings and construction phases had to be completed within eight months to enable the new building to be in use at the start of the college year in September 1996.
The project won a Waverley Borough Council Design Award in 1997.
