Residential Projects
Churt Place, Churt
Formerly the home of Edwardian Prime Minister David Lloyd George, the original property Bron-y-de formed part of the Churt Place Estate and was the work of Welsh architect Sir Owen Williams and constructed in 1922.
Sadly the original house on this site was destroyed by fire and was replaced by a new building in 1970.
Haworth King were commissioned by the current owners, Mr & Mrs Adrian Stafford-Jones, to design a replacement dwelling on this same site involving the demolition of the 1970’s house.
Work is scheduled to commence on site in the Spring of 2011 and will involve the construction of a Voysey style new house that will embrace modern methods of construction designed to be energy conscious.
The new property is forecasted to achieve energy savings in excess of 40%, employing solar and ground source heat pump technologies as the prime forms of renewable energies.
The proposal will also provide for rainwater harvesting that will enhance the holistic design approach to sustainability.
Located within the Green Belt and within the rural setting of the Surrey Hills, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty & Area of Great Landscape Value, the replacement house is designed to take best advantage of levels and orientation relative to its boundaries and neighbouring properties and reflects the indigenous style of this part of Surrey appropriate to this setting.
