Commercial Projects

The Millennium Centre, Crosby Way, Farnham. 1998-1999 Contract sum: £4.8 million.

The Millennium Centre is a commercial development by Farnham Estates Limited on part of the old Crosby factory site, which had been vacant since 1993.

The development comprises four two and three storey office buildings providing accommodation of between 8,000 and 16,000 sq.ft with a central courtyard. Car parking is located in the courtyard and below buildings. Site levels on the northern and western boundaries are approximately 4.0 metres below the adjoining land, and three of the buildings abut the level changes to maintain continuity of the street scene.

The opportunity was taken to re-establish the streetscape on this important route into the town, whilst being consistent with the clients' needs for commercial viability, resulting in modern accommodation in sympathy with the Farnham architectural tradition of red facing brickwork with reconstituted stonework under a slate roof.

Following competitive tender Henry Jones of the Kier Group were awarded the contract and work commenced on site in July 1998. A number of obstructions were found below ground, but despite the problems encountered the project was completed on time and on budget and was officially opened in June 1999.
